What it costs
Prices checked October 31, 2026, from American Hartford Gold’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.
- Gold or silver IRA: $10,000 minimum.
- Cash purchases: from about $5,000.
- Storage: $110/year non-segregated, $160/year segregated (company brochure).
- Metal prices quoted by phone; not published.
What we like
- BBB A+ rating.
- Trustpilot 4.8 from about 1,954 reviews.
- Handles custodian and depository setup.
- Offers to buy metals back.
What to watch for
- No published prices; markups are quoted by phone.
- Yearly storage and custodian fees.
- Promotions such as fee waivers or free silver can hide higher markups.
- Faced a 2023 TCPA lawsuit over sales calls and a 2023 law firm investigation into markups.
The fine print
- Gold IRAs carry costs that regular IRAs do not: dealer markups on the coins or bars (often several percent and higher on collectible coins), plus yearly custodian and storage fees. Prices are quoted by phone, and sales calls can be high-pressure, so get the buy price, the buyback price and every fee in writing before you sign, and compare with gold ETFs in a normal brokerage IRA.
- Its customer agreement requires JAMS arbitration.
- IRS rules limit which coins and bars an IRA can hold.
- Legitimacy signals we found: run by The Hartford Gold Group, LLC (Los Angeles); the BBB rated it A+ and Trustpilot showed 4.8 out of 5 from about 1,954 reviews as of October 31, 2026; we found no FTC, CFTC or CFPB enforcement action.
The main alternative: Augusta Precious Metals
Augusta Precious Metals is another large gold IRA dealer that also quotes prices by phone and focuses on customer education.
What it costs: No published prices; quoted by phone
Pick American Hartford Gold if you…
- have at least $10,000 to invest.
- want silver as well as gold.
- like its high Trustpilot score.
Pick Augusta Precious Metals if you…
- have a larger amount to invest.
- want an education-first sales process.
- want to compare a second quote.
Our take
American Hartford Gold is a well-rated gold IRA dealer, but get every markup and fee in writing and compare with low-cost gold funds first.
