What it is

Low-cost WhatsApp API for developers that links your own WhatsApp number by QR code and sends messages from your app, with webhooks and SDKs

How it works

Create a session in the dashboard, then open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked Devices and scan the QR code. Once it shows Connected, your app sends messages with one API call, and incoming messages and delivery updates arrive at your webhook.

Seen on Wapio’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read November 1, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used Wapio ourselves.

Key features

  • REST send-message API with idempotency keys
  • QR-code linking of your own WhatsApp number
  • Text, images, video, audio, documents, contacts and locations
  • Groups and Channels management for accounts you administer
  • Signed real-time webhooks
  • Node.js, Python and PHP/Laravel SDKs, plus an n8n node

Setup & learning curve

Sign up, verify your email and start the trial with no card. Create a session, scan its QR code from WhatsApp's Linked Devices menu and wait for Connected before sending a test message.

Integrations

Official SDKs for Node.js, Python and PHP/Laravel, an n8n community node, and HTTP and webhook modules in Make and Zapier.

Support

Email support on all plans, plus a help center, API docs and a status page.

Real-world use cases

  • Sending order and appointment alerts
  • Two-way support replies from an internal app
  • Chatbot and n8n automation workflows
  • Agencies running WhatsApp for several client numbers

What it costs

Starter $6/mo (1 number), checked November 1, 2026

Prices checked November 1, 2026, from Wapio’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.

  • Free trial: 3 days, no card needed, 1 connected number, up to 50 message requests a day and 1 a minute.
  • Starter: $6 a month for 1 connected WhatsApp number.
  • Pro: $15 a month for 3 numbers; Growth: $30 a month for 6 numbers; Agency: $45 a month for 10 numbers.
  • Yearly billing saves 15% (Wapio's comparison page lists Starter at $60 a year). No Wapio per-message fees on any plan; rate limits, media size limits and fair-use rules still apply.
  • Prices in USD; taxes are added at checkout by Paddle, which handles billing; plans renew automatically (official pricing, checked November 1, 2026).

What we like

  • Very low flat price: $6 a month for one number, with no Wapio per-message fees.
  • Free 3-day trial with no card, plus a 7-day refund window on your first paid purchase.
  • Official SDKs for Node.js (with TypeScript types), Python and PHP/Laravel, and an n8n community node.
  • Signed webhooks for incoming messages, delivery and read receipts, and session changes; the send endpoint supports idempotency keys to avoid duplicate sends.
  • Messages come from your own number with no Wapio branding, and you can keep using WhatsApp on your phone at the same time.

What to watch out for

  • Unofficial: it is not Meta's WhatsApp Business API, and its terms say WhatsApp may limit, suspend or ban an account.
  • A young company (founded in 2025, by its own account) with little track record yet.
  • Sessions can disconnect; changing phones, reinstalling WhatsApp or unlinking the device means scanning a new QR code.
  • Support is by email on every plan.
  • Renewals and the unused part of a billing period are not refunded under its voluntary policy.

The fine print

  • Wapio's terms say it is independent of WhatsApp and Meta, and that connecting a number does not guarantee WhatsApp will allow any particular workflow.
  • You may only message people you have a legal basis and, where required, consent to contact, and you must honor opt-outs; spam, unsolicited bulk messages and contact scraping are banned.
  • Wapio stores encrypted session data to keep your WhatsApp connection working; you never enter your WhatsApp password.
  • Paid plans renew automatically; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access to the end of the period. Cancelling does not delete your account, which you request separately.
  • Its liability is capped at what you paid it in the previous 12 months, and it does not promise delivery of every message.
  • Legitimacy signals we found: published terms and a refund policy (both updated August 2026), Paddle as merchant of record, public SDKs, API documentation and a status page.

Who it’s best for

Developers who want a cheap WhatsApp API for alerts and small workflows (see our warning).

  • Developers and small teams who want to send WhatsApp alerts, notifications and replies from their own app for a flat monthly price.
  • Agencies and SaaS builders who connect several numbers and want webhooks plus Node.js, Python and PHP SDKs.
  • No-code builders using n8n, Make or Zapier.

Who should skip it

  • Not for bulk marketing to people who have not opted in: Wapio's terms ban it, and it is the fastest way to get a number restricted.
  • Probably not for a business that cannot risk its main WhatsApp number; the official WhatsApp Business API is the safer route.

Pick Wapio if you…

  • want the lowest flat price and no per-message fees.
  • are a developer who wants a REST API, webhooks and SDKs.
  • accept the risk of using an unofficial connection.

Pick Wati.io if you…

  • need the official WhatsApp Business API with less risk to your number.
  • want a shared inbox and broadcasts for a team without coding.
  • send marketing messages at scale to opted-in customers.

Our take

Wapio is a cheap, developer-friendly way to send WhatsApp messages from your own app, with good SDKs and webhooks, but it is an unofficial connection from a young company, so test it on the free trial with a spare number and move to the official WhatsApp Business API if your main number matters.
