We researched ActiveCampaign's official pricing, plan terms, product pages and help documentation. We haven't used ActiveCampaign ourselves, so this is a research-based review, not a hands-on test.

Who it’s best for

  • Businesses that want detailed marketing automation.
  • Teams that want email plus CRM-style lead tracking.
  • Marketers who want AI help building campaigns and segments.

Who should skip it

  • Probably more than you need for a simple monthly newsletter.

How it works day to day

This part draws on ActiveCampaign’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read October 26, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used ActiveCampaign ourselves.

You build contact lists and segments, then set up automations: a trigger (such as a form sign-up or purchase) followed by emails, waits, conditions and actions. Campaigns go out to segments, and the business goals tracker shows progress. Active Intelligence watches engagement and suggests changes.

Key features in use

  • Visual automation builder with branching, waits and goals.
  • Segmentation that grows from limited (Starter) to premium (Enterprise).
  • AI-suggested actions that recommend full marketing sequences.
  • AI Action Library inside automations for personalization and sentiment analysis.
  • Predictive sending and conditional content on Pro and up.

Setup and learning curve

Start by importing contacts, connecting your site or store, and adding a form. Simple automations can be live on day one, and ActiveCampaign's AI can build a campaign from a description. Advanced segmentation and multi-branch automations take more planning.

Integrations

ActiveCampaign says it integrates with over 950 apps, including CRMs and ecommerce platforms, without manual syncing.

Support

ActiveCampaign offers support, a help center and demos; higher plans add more support options, and Enterprise includes an uptime SLA.

Real-world use cases

  • An online store sends abandoned-cart and post-purchase sequences.
  • A consultant scores leads by email engagement and follows up with the hottest ones.
  • A business runs a welcome series that branches based on what each subscriber clicks.

What it costs

Prices checked October 26, 2026, from ActiveCampaign’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.

  • Starter: from $15 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 contacts, 10,000 email sends a month and 1 user.
  • Plus: from $49 a month billed yearly. Adds cross-channel marketing, generative AI, landing pages and 25 active business goals.
  • Pro: from $79 a month billed yearly. 3 users, predictive sending and conditional content.
  • Enterprise: from $145 a month billed yearly. 5 users and single sign-on.
  • Prices rise with contacts. Free trial; full refund if you're not satisfied after 30 days, per its guarantee.

What we like

  • Multi-step automation on every plan, even Starter.
  • Integrates with over 950 apps, according to ActiveCampaign.
  • AI tools (Active Intelligence) suggest segments, write content and build campaigns.
  • Free trial and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

What to watch for

  • Starter lacks cross-channel marketing, landing pages and generative AI.
  • Prices climb quickly with contacts and features.
  • Only 1 user on Starter and Plus.
  • Power features take time to learn.

The fine print

  • The prices shown are for 1,000 contacts billed yearly; more contacts cost more.
  • Email sends are capped at a multiple of your contact limit (10x on Starter and Plus).

The main alternative: HubSpot

HubSpot starts with a free CRM and grows into marketing, sales and service suites. It suits businesses that want a full platform with a free starting point.

What it costs: Free; Starter normally $20/seat, checked October 23, 2026

HubSpot in Best CRM for Small Businesses · ActiveCampaign vs HubSpot

Pick ActiveCampaign if you…

  • want powerful automation and lead tracking in one tool.
  • need lots of integrations with your other apps.

Pick HubSpot if you…

  • want a free CRM to start, with room to grow.
  • need sales and service tools alongside marketing.

Our take

ActiveCampaign is one of the strongest choices for automation, with deep workflows even on its entry plan and a huge integration list. The entry plan is limited, so check which features you need before choosing. If a free CRM matters more, compare HubSpot.
