We researched Aura's official pricing and terms, plus independent reviews and customer feedback. We haven't used Aura ourselves, so this is a research-based review, not a hands-on test.

Who it’s best for

  • Families who want identity, credit, device and online-safety protection in one app.
  • People who also want data broker removal included.

Who should skip it

  • Probably not worth it if you already pay separately for antivirus, a VPN and a password manager.

How it works day to day

This part draws on Aura’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read October 26, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used Aura ourselves.

After you sign up and add the details you want watched (Social Security number, bank and card accounts, email addresses and so on), Aura runs in the background and sends alerts to its app when something changes: a new credit inquiry, an account change, an unusual transaction, or your information turning up in a data breach. Most days you won't open it; when an alert arrives, you check it and, if it's fraud, start the recovery process.

Key features in use

  • Three-bureau credit monitoring with a monthly credit score.
  • One-tap Experian credit lock in the app.
  • Alerts on financial accounts, credit inquiries and public records, plus the home title monitoring noted above.
  • On Family plans: child identity monitoring and parental controls with screen-time limits, content filtering and cyberbullying alerts.
  • The bundled antivirus, VPN, password manager and data broker removal noted above.

Setup and learning curve

Setup is mainly adding the information you want monitored and installing the app on each device you want protected. The 14-day free trial is enough time to set everything up and see what alerts look like before paying.

Integrations

Aura doesn't connect to other apps. It links to the bank, card and investment accounts you choose so it can watch them for unusual activity.

Support

Aura offers 24/7 US-based customer support and what it calls White Glove fraud remediation, where a specialist helps you deal with credit bureaus, banks and government agencies after identity theft.

Real-world use cases

  • A family wants identity, credit and kids' online-safety protection in one subscription.
  • Someone whose data turned up in a breach wants alerts and a quick way to lock their credit.
  • A person who wants help, not just alerts, if their identity is actually stolen.

What it costs

Prices checked October 25, 2026, from Aura’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.

  • Individual: $12 a month billed yearly, or $15 monthly.
  • Couple: $22 a month billed yearly, or $29 monthly.
  • Family (5 adults, unlimited kids): $32 a month billed yearly, or $50 monthly.

What we like

  • Three-bureau credit monitoring, credit lock and home title monitoring.
  • $1 million in identity theft insurance per adult, up to $5 million on Family.
  • Includes antivirus, a VPN, a password manager and data broker removal.
  • Trustpilot showed 4.3 out of 5 from about 1,340 reviews as of October 25, 2026.

What to watch for

  • PCMag's latest review (April 2024) rated it 3.5 out of 5, citing weaker device protection and VPN than standalone tools.
  • Some reviewers mention refund and feature issues.
  • You may already pay for some of these extras elsewhere.

The fine print

  • 14-day free trial; 60-day money-back guarantee on yearly plans (per our identity theft guide).
  • Insurance terms have limits; read the policy summary.

The main alternative: LifeLock (Norton)

LifeLock is the best-known identity theft protection brand and can be bundled with Norton 360. It has a 60-day money-back guarantee. LifeLock settled FTC cases in 2010 and 2015 over its claims.

What it costs: LifeLock Total $349.99/yr; 60-day money-back, checked October 26, 2026

Pick Aura if you…

  • want one family plan that covers identity, credit and devices.
  • want clear yearly pricing without a big first-year jump.

Pick LifeLock (Norton) if you…

  • want a famous brand and plan to bundle with Norton 360.
  • are comfortable watching for the renewal price after a promo.

Our take

Aura is a strong all-in-one choice for families, with three-bureau monitoring and generous insurance. Its built-in extras are fine rather than best-in-class. LifeLock suits people who want the Norton brand, but check its renewal price.
