What Granite Cloud does

Granite Cloud gives an organization two layers of protection from one provider. The first layer is an online, encrypted backup: Veeam backup software sends copies of your data over the internet to Granite Cloud’s data center, where they are available to restore at any time. The second layer, called Isolated Data Tier, takes copies of those backups and moves them into a physically offline, air-gapped state, so they are cut off from any network.

Granite Cloud describes itself as the only two-part platform that pairs easy online encrypted backups with physically air-gapped offline copies, made and managed on the client’s behalf. We have not independently confirmed that claim, but the combination is unusual, and what stands out is that the client never has to buy, run or staff the offline side.

How it works

  • Online backups through Veeam. Granite Cloud is a Veeam Cloud Connect provider, so backups run through Veeam software, but you don’t need to already use Veeam. If you don’t have it, you can get a small monthly Veeam license through Granite Cloud for a few dollars per data source. You connect to Granite Cloud from inside the Veeam console, so there is no separate VPN tunnel to set up. The company says data is encrypted end to end and that you hold the encryption keys.
  • Offline copies, handled for you. With Isolated Data Tier, recent backups are sent over an encrypted connection and then taken offline on a schedule and retention period you choose. Offline copies are kept on tape and disk, with retention available for more than 25 years. Staff at the facility do the work, so you don’t need your own tape library, software or people.
  • A protected location. The data center sits inside a solid granite mountain vault, with redundant power, two separate fiber internet carriers, redundant firewalls and armed security. The vault has been in use since 1968.
  • Help when you need to restore. Besides restoring over the internet, Granite Cloud offers reverse seeding: its private courier fleet can physically deliver large data sets on storage devices, within 24 hours for clients within about 1,000 miles. The company says calls are answered by on-site vault technicians.

Who it is for

Granite Cloud is built for organizations whose records must never cease to exist: corporate, government and non-profit data where losing a backup is not an option. It suits IT teams and managed IT providers that want a ransomware-resistant second copy, an offline “1” in the 3-2-1-1 backup rule (three copies, two kinds of media, one offsite, one offline), long-term archives, or copies kept for legal and regulatory holds.

Pricing

Granite Cloud prices by how much you store, with one all-inclusive rate. According to the company, online storage is $0.087 per GiB a month and offline storage in Isolated Data Tier is $0.010 per GiB a month (rates provided by the company, October 25, 2026). The company says it does not charge the extras many cloud providers add, such as fees for data transfers, downloads, requests, retrievals, writes or access, and its price sheet says the rate drops as stored volume grows. If you don’t already use Veeam, add a small monthly Veeam license through Granite Cloud, which costs a few dollars per data source.

A GiB is slightly larger than a GB (1 GiB is about 1.07 GB). At those rates, keeping 10 TiB (10,240 GiB) online would be about $891 a month, and keeping the same 10 TiB offline would be about $102 a month, before any Veeam licensing.

There is normally a $499 setup fee. Ask for a quote that spells out any other line items, such as initial data seeding or more than 10 virtual machines, which the company’s older price sheet lists as separate charges.

Current offer

Granite Cloud is waiving its $499 setup fee for new clients who start a demo before December 31, 2026.

What we like

  • Online and offline protection from one provider, with the offline side fully managed for you.
  • An offline, air-gapped copy is out of reach of ransomware and of anyone misusing an administrator login.
  • Simple, all-inclusive pricing with no transfer or retrieval fees, so a big restore does not bring a surprise bill.
  • Physical delivery of large restores by courier, which can be far faster than downloading many terabytes.
  • The company says real people at the facility answer the phone.
  • Strong client loyalty: the company reports about 95% client retention.

What to keep in mind

  • It is built for organizations, not for home users who want a simple photo or laptop backup app.
  • You don’t need to already use Veeam, but the service runs on it. If you don’t have it, budget for a small monthly Veeam license through Granite Cloud, a few dollars per data source.
  • Pricing is per GiB of storage, so costs grow with the amount of data you keep. Estimate your total data and retention before you request a quote.
  • Courier delivery within 24 hours applies within about 1,000 miles. Ask about timing if you are farther away.
  • Granite Cloud does not publish client names, so there are no public customer testimonials to read.

Our take

For an organization that cannot afford to lose its data, Granite Cloud is a strong choice. It pairs easy online encrypted backups with physically air-gapped offline copies and handles the hard part of the offline copy for you, and its pricing avoids the transfer and retrieval fees that make many cloud backups hard to budget. If you need both layers of protection, it is well worth a demo, especially while the setup fee is waived. Learn more on Granite Cloud’s official page.
