We researched Talkroute's official pricing and terms, plus independent reviews and customer feedback. We haven't used Talkroute ourselves, so this is a research-based review, not a hands-on test.
Who it’s best for
- Solo owners and small teams who want a business number with call routing and texting.
- People who want month-to-month pricing with no contract.
Who should skip it
- Probably not the best fit for teams that need deep reporting or many integrations.
How it works day to day
This part draws on Talkroute’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read October 26, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used Talkroute ourselves.
Talkroute is a virtual phone system: you get a business number (local or toll-free) and decide where calls go. Calls can forward to your cell or office phone, follow schedules (for example, after hours to voicemail), or go through a menu that sends callers to the right extension. You and your team answer, text and check voicemail in Talkroute's desktop, mobile and web apps.
Key features in use
- Call forwarding and routing with a phone menu (IVR), extensions and scheduled routing.
- Business texting (SMS and MMS) from the same number.
- Voicemail to email, with optional voicemail transcription that you can switch on per mailbox.
- Call recording, call history and reporting, plus video meetings.
Setup and learning curve
Because there's no hardware, setup is mostly choosing a number and building your call flow (who rings, when, and what happens if nobody answers) in the app. Talkroute's support center has short articles for each setting, such as turning transcription on or off.
Integrations
Talkroute connects to other apps through Zapier and webhooks, and offers a REST API. Its API guide says access is reviewed per account and covers contacts, messaging, voicemail, call history and configuration, but not placing voice calls.
Support
Talkroute says support is available 24/7 from US- and Canada-based teams, and it keeps a help center with setup articles.
Real-world use cases
- A solo consultant wants a separate business number that rings their cell, with texting.
- A small office wants a phone menu and after-hours routing without buying a phone system.
- A team wants voicemails transcribed and emailed so nobody has to dial in to listen.
What it costs
Prices checked October 25, 2026, from Talkroute’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.
- Basic: $19 a month. 1 user, 1 local or toll-free number, 500 texts.
- Plus: $39 a month. 3 users, 2 numbers, 2,000 texts.
- Pro: $59 a month. 10 users, 3 numbers, 5,000 texts.
- Extra users and numbers are $5 a month each. Enterprise (20+ users) is custom.
What we like
- No contract, so you can leave any month.
- Flat team pricing on Plus and Pro instead of per-user pricing.
- A 7-day free trial.
- Reviewers generally praise easy setup, call quality and support.
What to watch for
- Some reviewers mention lag in the mobile and desktop apps.
- Reporting and integrations are limited.
- Some complaints about being billed after a trial.
- We couldn't confirm current review counts on G2 or Capterra.
The fine print
- Cancel before the 7-day trial ends if you don't want to be charged.
- Text limits apply per plan.
The main alternative: Grasshopper
Grasshopper gives solo owners a business number that rings their own cell, with voicemail and extensions. It isn't a full office phone system, and its texting is more limited than some rivals.
What it costs: True Solo $14/mo billed annually; 7-day trial, checked October 26, 2026

Pick Talkroute if you…
- want a small team on one flat price, with no contract.
- want more texts included than Grasshopper's entry plan.
Pick Grasshopper if you…
- are a solo owner who wants the cheapest yearly price for a number on your cell.
- want a well-known brand with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
Our take
Talkroute is a sensible, no-contract phone line for solo owners and small teams, and its flat team pricing can beat per-user plans. Cancel before the trial ends if it's not for you. A solo owner paying yearly may find Grasshopper a little cheaper.
