We researched Zoho Books's official pricing and terms, plus independent reviews and customer feedback. We haven't used Zoho Books ourselves, so this is a research-based review, not a hands-on test.
Who it’s best for
- Small businesses that want a free start and room to grow.
- Businesses already using other Zoho apps.
Who should skip it
- Probably not the best fit if your accountant only works in QuickBooks.
How it works day to day
This part draws on Zoho Books’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read October 26, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used Zoho Books ourselves.
Day to day, Zoho Books pulls in transactions from your connected bank and credit card accounts, suggests categories and matches, and you confirm them, which keeps reconciliation current. You create and send invoices and estimates from it, clients can view and pay invoices through a customer portal, and you track bills and expenses in the same place.
Key features in use
- Bank and card feeds with automatic categorization, transaction matching and reconciliation.
- Invoices, estimates and online payments, with a customer portal where clients view and pay.
- Inventory tracking with items, price lists, stock levels and reorder alerts (Professional and up, as noted above).
- Projects and time tracking, purchase orders and multi-currency on higher plans.
Setup and learning curve
Zoho's "How Zoho Books works" guide walks you through setting up your organization, connecting bank accounts and creating your first invoice. Because Zoho Books has a lot of depth, PCMag found it complex for many small businesses (noted above), so plan some time to learn it.
Integrations
Zoho Books connects with other Zoho apps such as Zoho CRM and Zoho Inventory, and with payment gateways including Stripe and PayPal. Stripe payments can sync and reconcile automatically.
Support
Zoho publishes extensive help documentation for Zoho Books, organized by feature (banking, payments, integrations and more).
Real-world use cases
- A new business under the free-plan revenue limit does its books at no cost.
- A company already on Zoho CRM wants accounting that shares the same customer records.
- A small product business tracks inventory alongside its invoices.
What it costs
Prices checked October 25, 2026, from Zoho Books’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.
- Free: for businesses with under $50,000 in yearly revenue. 1 user plus an accountant, up to 1,000 invoices a year.
- Standard: $15 a month billed yearly ($20 monthly), 3 users.
- Professional: $40 a month billed yearly ($50 monthly), 5 users, multi-currency, purchase orders, inventory and projects.
- Higher plans: $60, $120 and $240 a month billed yearly.
What we like
- A genuinely free plan for small businesses.
- Paid plans cost much less than QuickBooks Online.
- PCMag rated it 4.0 out of 5 as of October 26, 2026, praising its depth and flexibility.
What to watch for
- Fewer accountants know it than QuickBooks or Xero.
- PCMag found it complex for many small businesses.
The fine print
- The free plan only applies while yearly revenue stays under the revenue limit shown in What it costs.
The main alternative: QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online is the accounting software most bookkeepers and accountants know. Prices went up on August 1, 2026, and payroll and payments cost extra.
What it costs: $38/mo (Simple Start), $19/mo for 3 months, checked October 26, 2026

Pick Zoho Books if you…
- want a free or low-cost plan with room to grow.
- already use Zoho apps.
Pick QuickBooks Online if you…
- work with an accountant or bookkeeper who uses QuickBooks.
- want the most widely supported accounting software.
Our take
Zoho Books is great value, with a real free plan and paid plans well below QuickBooks. If your accountant lives in QuickBooks, that may still be the easier choice.
