We researched LastPass's official pricing, plan terms, product pages and help documentation. We haven't used LastPass ourselves, so this is a research-based review, not a hands-on test.

Who it’s best for

  • Existing LastPass users who are comfortable after reviewing its security history.
  • Small teams that want simple shared credential management.
  • People who want a familiar app with a free plan.

Who should skip it

  • Probably not the pick if past security incidents worry you; read the section on its history below.

How it works day to day

This part draws on LastPass’s own product pages, help center and documentation, read October 26, 2026 (listed under Sources). We haven’t used LastPass ourselves.

LastPass saves passwords as you log in and autofills them next time, across devices on paid plans. Its security dashboard flags weak, reused and old passwords, and dark web monitoring alerts you if your details turn up. Business admins manage users and policies from a console.

Key features in use

  • Password vault with save and autofill.
  • Passkeys, a password generator and a username generator.
  • Dark web monitoring and a security dashboard.
  • Emergency access and secure notes.
  • Business: SaaS, web and AI monitoring and protection tools.

Setup and learning curve

Install the browser extension or app, create a master password, and import passwords. LastPass's own security notice stresses using a strong, unique master password of at least 12 characters.

Integrations

Business plans connect with identity providers for federated login and include admin controls.

Support

Premium users get personal support from LastPass customer care; Free users get self-service resources only.

Real-world use cases

  • A small team shares logins for shared tools.
  • Someone sets up emergency access for a trusted family member.
  • A business monitors which SaaS apps employees use.

What it costs

Prices checked October 26, 2026, from LastPass’s own pricing page unless noted. Prices change often, so check the official page before you buy.

  • Teams: $4.25 per user a month billed yearly, up to 50 users.
  • Business: $7 per user a month billed yearly.
  • Business Max: $11 per user a month billed yearly.
  • Personal Premium and Families prices didn't load on the page we read, so check the official pricing page.
  • Free plan available. Free trials: 30 days for personal plans and 14 days for business plans.

What we like

  • A free plan, with paid trials of 30 days (personal) and 14 days (business).
  • Dark web monitoring, a security dashboard, passkeys and emergency access on Premium.
  • Business plans add SaaS and AI monitoring tools.
  • Free users keep their saved data if they don't upgrade after a trial.

What to watch for

  • In 2022, LastPass disclosed that an attacker copied a backup of customer vault data, with passwords and notes encrypted but website URLs unencrypted. LastPass said encrypted fields could only be unlocked with each user's master password.
  • LastPass Free works on one device type only (computer or mobile, not both), and shares one password with one person at a time.
  • Free users get only self-service support.
  • We couldn't confirm personal plan prices on the day we checked.

The fine print

  • Paid plans are billed yearly.
  • After a trial ends, you can buy a paid plan or stay on Free and lose paid features.

The main alternative: NordPass

NordPass is a modern password manager from the makers of NordVPN, with a limited free plan, a low intro price on its 2-year plan, and business plans.

What it costs: $37.53 for the first 27 months (Premium), checked October 22, 2026

Pick LastPass if you…

  • already use LastPass and are happy after reviewing its security history.
  • want a free plan and simple sharing for a small team.

Pick NordPass if you…

  • want a newer app with a low upfront price.
  • prefer a provider without LastPass's 2022 incident.

Our take

LastPass still has a full feature set and a free plan, but its 2022 security incident is a real factor to weigh, and its free plan is limited to one device type. If you're choosing fresh, compare NordPass or 1Password first.
