Who Aura fits

Families that want identity, credit, device and online-safety protection in one app.

Watch out for: You may already pay for some pieces (VPN, antivirus) elsewhere. Aura also appears on our data removal page.

Who LifeLock fits

People who want a well-known brand and possibly bundle with Norton 360.

Watch out for: Renewal is much higher than the first year. LifeLock has settled two FTC cases: in 2010 it agreed to pay $12 million over charges that its identity-theft-protection and data-security claims were false (FTC, 2010), and in 2015 it paid $100 million to settle charges that it violated that 2010 order (FTC, 2015).

Quick verdict

Aura bundles identity, credit, device and online-safety protection, from $12/mo billed yearly. LifeLock is the better-known name and bundles with Norton 360; it settled FTC cases in 2010 and 2015 over its claims and data security. Whichever you choose, freeze your credit at the three bureaus first; it’s free.
